Designed by Edward Barber Jay Osgerby for Vitra, Mikado is an elegant and surprising seat. It is very comfortable and its wrap-around shape gives an impression of serenity and strength. Thanks to a simple and ingenious mechanism concealed beneath the seat, the backrest of Mikado reclines slightly. Mikado is available in two versions: chair and armchair. In the armchair version, the rounded backrest extends subtly into armrests. The base is available in aluminium or oak and can be combined with a wide choice of fabrics. The Mikado seat covers from Vitra are not glued and can be removed for cleaning or replacement. The legs can be replaced individually or exchanged for another material – wood or recycled aluminium. The ease with which components can be replaced gives the Mikado Vitra chair long-term versatility, guaranteeing its longevity.
