Description
Created by Raw-Edges for the furnishings and fittings of an entire floor of the VitraHaus on the Vitra Campus, the Herringbone collection grew out of the studio’s interest in the dip-dyeing technique. The Herringbone Vessels are created by repeatedly dipping ceramic bowls and vases in a coloured glaze. This process produces a pattern obeying an intrinsic logic, determined by the angle of immersion as well as the shape and weight of the object. The transformation of different materials and shapes by soaking in a dye bath exerts an almost magical fascination on design duo Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer, leading to the decision to further refine the design of the Herringbone collection for mass production at Vitra. Entirely handmade, each bowl, vase and tray in the Herringbone Vessels collection is a unique object.
