Designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Tacchini in the mid-1970s, the Artona armchair in guarana leather is a piece that reaffirms design as a cultural act as much as an object of comfort, carrying within her this deep conviction that formal rigor and generosity of use have no reason to contradict each other. Its solid wood structure, whose vertical and horizontal planes are articulated in a micro-architecture of remarkable precision, imposes itself with a presence at the same time strong and restrained, that of objects which do not need artifice to assert their character. The two L-shaped elements that simultaneously serve as support and armrests define a clear and sovereign geometry, which the backrest tempers with the only gentle gesture of the composition, introducing this touch of humanity that transforms rigor into an invitation. The interplay of wood overlays animates surfaces with discreet sophistication, revealing a cabinetmaking expertise shaped by time, proportions and care, that the guarana leather comes to extend with a natural warmth and a timeless nobility which justly underline the quality of each detail.
