Created in the 1950s by designer Mathieu Matégot, the Tropique Outdoor Furniture collection captures the timeless elegance and exotic luxury of outdoor life on the Côte d’Azur in the mid-20th century. Over 50 years later, Gubi pays tribute to Mathieu Matégot with the reissue of one of his most famous collections. Developed shortly after his return from World War II, the Tropique table was one of the key collections that helped establish Matégot’s reputation as a designer. Since its discontinuation decades ago, the Tropique collection is now being revived for the 21st century, giving a new generation the opportunity to experience « la dolce vita » as envisioned by Mathieu Matégot. Combining material simplicity with decadent aesthetics, the Tropique collection includes two small dining chairs and a table. The frame of each piece is made from stainless steel tubes, with a distinctive curve at the feet, uniting the collection in a cohesive set. The Tropique table features a perforated metal top, a material frequently used by the designer for its ease of manipulation and its ability to create a lightweight, transparent surface. This makes the Tropique table both durable and light, allowing light to pass through.
